FIND scenario
Decide how you would respond to the situation in at least two (extra credit for doing three or four)
of the following scenarios using the FIND model. (See page 6 in your text.)
Describe the steps you would take to:
F - Figure out the problem
I - Identify possible solutions
N - Name the pros and cons for each solution
D - Decide which solution is best, then act on it
Remember, you only use 'F.I.N.D.' in non-emergency situations.
Scenario 1: A mother starts to inflate water wings for her child. You politely tell her that water wings are not allowed during open swims. She becomes very angry and says that other lifeguards have always allowed her child to use them and her child needs them because he cannot swim. The facility is very busy and you have already told other patrons that they cannot use water wings. What would you do?
Scenario 2: You are lifeguarding a family swim and a father is playing with his two boys. The father is 'throwing' the boys over his head and out into the water. The water depth is 4 feet. How do you react?
Scenario 3: The individual you are following in the rotation has many poor habits as a lifeguard. When you relieve her, she does not adequately provide patron surveillance while you are getting into the chair. She also was not enforcing pool rules, which makes it difficult for you to get things back under control. How do you handle the situation?
Scenario 4: You are lifeguarding during a Learn-to-Swim class and you notice a new instructor teaching students how to dive in water where diving is not permitted. How do you handle this situation?
