Alan Ahlstrand is a Red Cross lifeguard/lifeguard instructor. He has guarded at De Anza and at over 30 triathlons or open water swims, including the Danskin Women's Triathlon, Bud Light, All For Kids Day, San Jose International, Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon, Sharkfest, AlcaTri, Golden Gate Bridge Sharkfest and National Senior Games Triathlon.
Alan was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of De Anza, Editor-In-Chief the De Anza student newspaper and Copy Editor of the Spartan Daily student newspaper at San Jose State. He is a technical writer and if you search his name as author at Amazon you will usually find over 100 titles in print.
George Cullison is a Red Cross lifeguard/lifeguard instructor who took lifeguard training for the first time at age 60. At his first job at the Cupertino Y he was known as The Enforcer. In the last seven years at the Los Gatos JCC he has trained over 200 lifeguards. George swims in and has been a volunteer lifeguard at Alcatraz races, and a volunteer guard at the Silicon Valley Kid's triathlon. George was a navy First Class Petty Officer and worked as an engineer for Hewlett Packard for 30 years.
Ken Mignosa is a Red Cross lifeguard/lifeguard instructor/lifeguard instructor trainer and USA swimming coach. Ken coaches masters for the Santa Clara Swim Club and he teaches Red Cross courses for the Los Gatos JCC, City of Sunnyvale, California Sports Center and the Santa Clara Swim Club. He is also a US Masters swimmer and swims 10 - 14 miles/week in pools and open water. He has participated in six swims from Alcatraz to San Francisco, one 5.6K around Alcatraz, and other open water swims in the Bay Area. Ken has guarded at cabana clubs, the Santa Clara Swim Center, and the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon. He has also guarded at open water swims including the Sharkfest, AlcaTri, Alcatraz Challenge & the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Ken is a past PTA president of Mariano Castro Elementary School in Mountain View. He has B.A. in Theater Arts from UCLA.
Raul Alba is a Red Cross lifeguard/lifeguard instructor who guards and teaches swimming at a local private pool. The picture shows him assisting a swimmer at the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon. He also volunteered at a swim from the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito where he dodged supertankers in his kayak.
Ethan Wilkie
is a Red Cross lifeguard and a Red Cross CPR/AED Pro instructor who guards at a local pool. The picture shows him (on the left) assisting a swimmer at the Silicon Valley Kids traithlon. He also volunteered at an Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon. When he took lifeguard training at De Anza the class members were calling him the 'King of the Lifeguards' because he didn't miss any questions on the Red Cross exams. When he missed one question on the oxygen administration exam the class erupted in cheers.
Debbie Adams is a graduate of the De Anza nursing program and a Red Cross CPR/AED Pro instructor. The picture shows her assisting a swimmer at the Silicon Valley Kids traithlon. She also volunteered at Escape From Alcatraz races.
