The Ahwahnee Hotel has had three different models of in-room coffee makers. Yosemite Valley Lodge has used yet another kind.
(Decades ago, the hotel would have a Porter bring a carafe of hot coffee, as well as the morning newspaper, to each cottage room and leave it on the front porch early in the morning.)
The hotel has left this card with instructions on how to use the coffee maker pictured below:
Here is some more advice.
The instruction card provided by the hotel has said: “Pull out top mug support grid to use larger cup.”
(All the cups provided by the hotel are large.)
It could have said “swing out top mug support grid to use larger cup,”
since you do not remove the grid, and then you do not risk “pulling” too hard in the grid.
You do not need to measure how much water, just fill the large reservoir at the back of the machine and don’t let it run out of water.
(This next advice was given to us by a housekeeper when we could not figure out what was wrong.)
The instruction card provided by the hotel has said:
“lift lever and insert capsule into slot. Pull lever down.”
You must pull the handle FULLY up to be able to insert the coffee pod (capsule), or the pod will not go in properly and clear water will come out into your cup:
The instruction card provided by the hotel has said: “push power button located above the water tank.”
You will need to push the on/off button at the upper rear section of the coffee maker
EACH time you want to brew another cup.
If you find red lights when you think you have followed the instructions it may be because there is not enough water in the reservoir at the back of the coffee maker. (And you must have a cup / mug in place or the coffee maker will not function.)
The instruction card provided by the hotel has said:
“Select coffee size using three buttons located at the machine face.”
If you push the left hand side button you get a stronger coffee, but not much of it.
You can fit 2 pours of the right hand side button (110 ml + 110 ml) in a large mug.
